Alex Hastings is the PUD’s summer intern with the Finance Department. She has been working with the PUD since May 13.

“One of my main jobs this summer has been tracking down fixed assets and making sure they are recorded accurately in our computer system,” Alex
says, but her duties extend to just about anything the Finance Department needs.

Alex grew up in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Her parents recently moved to The Dalles. She also has one older sister working in digital marketing in Portland.

When she’s not working, she enjoys practicing violin, composing music, painting, reading, running and rock climbing. While she expects to earn her Bachelor’s degree in violin performance and music composition next spring from George Fox University, she has also been studying business. These studies have prepared her for her role at the PUD, as has her violin teacher, Dr. Rebekah Hanson, who has helped her develop many skills that apply to any profession.

“I currently have a violin studio and teach students ages 6-18,” Alex says. “I want to utilize the business world to make music education more accessible to children—particularly for children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, who often thrive in the arts. Thanks to opportunities to further my finance business knowledge, I plan to someday manage a performing arts school for children with special needs.”
