Powering Our Community’s Celebrations
As the holiday season continues to unfold, I find myself reflecting on the quiet role electricity plays in your family traditions.
Since Northern Wasco County PUD’s founding more than 75 years ago, how many Thanksgiving turkeys have been roasted across The Dalles and Wasco County? How many batches of holiday cookies have emerged from ovens connected to our lines? How many Christmas trees have flickered to life in living rooms, all because of the community members who fought for this utility and the crew members who maintain it today?
There’s something meaningful about knowing we’re part of these moments—the ones that become your family’s stories and traditions. While we work to keep your power reliable every day of the year, there’s an extra weight to our responsibility during these weeks when homes fill with guests, ovens run for hours and strings of lights transform neighborhoods into something magical.
When Our Neighbors Need a Hand
The holidays also remind us that not everyone experiences this season the same way. For some families in our community, winter brings the stress of higher electric bills at a time when budgets are already stretched thin. These aren’t strangers—they’re the people we see at the grocery store, community events and in our neighborhoods. Sometimes the need isn’t visible, but it’s real.
This is where our Neighbor to Neighbor program makes a difference. Customers can make one-time contributions, set up automatic monthly donations added to their bills or simply round up their bill to the nearest dollar, with the difference going to help a neighbor in need. Whatever you give, Northern Wasco County PUD matches it, doubling the impact of your generosity.
