Your Community Power: Important Rate Update for 2025

As we begin 2025, I’d like to take a moment to share some important updates about your utility. Here at Northern Wasco County Peoples Utility District (NWCPUD), every decision we make is guided by a simple principle: providing you with reliable, affordable power while building a stronger tomorrow.

I want to be upfront with you about an upcoming change. In May, your monthly bill will see a modest rate adjustment of just over 2%. This change, carefully considered by our board of directors, reflects increased power supply costs from Bonneville Power Administration, general inflation impacts, and our ongoing commitment to maintaining strong credit ratings through prudent financial management.

This decision was made to support the rising costs of maintaining and modernizing our electric infrastructure while working to keep our rates among the lowest in the region. We’ve purposefully timed this adjustment for May, rather than any winter months, to avoid affecting households when heating needs and costs are typically highest.

We understand the impact of rising costs on our community as we, too, face increased expenses for essential equipment and materials. This adjustment will strengthen our ability to serve you better through upgraded substations, a modernized grid that supports growing energy needs, well-maintained infrastructure to prevent outages, and preparations for future community growth and electrification.

We recognize rate changes affect households differently. If this adjustment may create a hardship for your family, please connect with our customer service team about programs available to help offset your utility costs. We’re here to help.

As your community-owned, not-for-profit utility, we answer to you—not shareholders. Every dollar stays right here, working for our community. Our recent cost-of-service analysis confirmed this rate adjustment is necessary to ensure high-quality service to our entire community.

Your trust drives everything we do, from keeping your lights on reliably to maintaining affordable rates and ensuring your voice shapes our decisions. We’re honored to be your community-owned power provider and look forward to serving you in 2025 and beyond.
