Celebrating Public Power Week
As the general manager and CEO of Northern Wasco County Peoples Utility District (NWCPUD), I am delighted to join the nationwide celebration of Public Power Week from Sunday, October 6, to Saturday, October 12. Organized by the American Public Power Association, this special week offers us an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the vital role that public power utilities play in our communities.
Public Power Week underscores the distinct advantages of public power, which is managed by and for the people it serves. Unlike investor-owned utilities, public power utilities are dedicated to meeting customer needs and enhancing community welfare rather than focusing on profit. At Northern Wasco County PUD, our mission is to provide reliable, competitively priced energy and related services that benefit our customers in the tradition of public power while staying directly accountable to you—our customer-owners and neighbors.
We at Northern Wasco County PUD take great pride in being a public power utility that works for you. Our mission extends beyond providing reliable and affordable electricity that is carbon-free and environmentally responsible; we are dedicated to enhancing our community. As a consumer-owned utility, we prioritize local needs over profit, which allows us to reinvest revenue into The Dalles and Wasco County, supporting economic growth and job creation. Our local governance ensures decisions are tailored to community needs, while our exceptional customer service and commitment to sustainability demonstrate our dedication to both the present and future well-being of our customer-owners and community.
Also included in this magazine is our most recent annual report. I encourage you to review it to see how your PUD works in and with our community.
As we celebrate Public Power Week, we reaffirm our commitment to the values of reliability, affordability, and community service. We are proud to be part of the public power network and to make a positive impact on your lives each day.
